How do I network two pc’s with a cable router?

I have two pc’s both run winxp, a wired router from linksys, a network adapter card in BOTH pcs and i can not get printer and file sharing to work and i know the router i have enables that ….PLEASE help me before i shoot one of these dang machines……Detailed step by step instructions would be helpful thanks

    Quite easy, right click your c drive and click share, then enable file sharing. same wiht your pritner. click share and enable print shareing. sorry for bad spelling, im famous for that :)

    Did you run the xp network setup wizard on both pc’s?
    Did you check that you don’t have firewall software preventing sharing. The wizard should take care of the xp firewall, but if you have norton or something like taht, you will need to add a trusted network.

    Look in Windows ‘Help’…the printer and file sharing info is there.
