yes lightning can damage ADSL equipment, you should have an ADSL light on your router. If this light is steadily flashing your router is not recieving a signal.

This could be because it is not properly connected to the phone line or possibly because it has been damaged by a power surge due to a lightning strike.

    Troubleshooting steps.
    1. Connect a PC directly to your DSL line without firewall, router etc.
If it connects to the Internet, proceed to step two, if not contact your ISP/DSL service provider.
    2. Check you network settings on the PC that needs to get to the Internet. There maybe more than one network connection.
If there is more that one connection, you must decide which one is valid and remove the other (s) one or disable them. You may find that you have a wire-less and and a hard wire connection.
    3. Check your settings with in the connections tab of Internet Explorer (IE) or whatever services you are using. Make sure the settings are correct to your security standards.
    4. Check you Anti virus settings some Anti virus programs assumes you want to block certain sites, it may be blocking your connection.
