network router
thetyrannyofmen asked:

Today we bought a Mac, its not out of the box yet though. I have had an Emachine (which is a pit of a piece). The Mac has a wireless addaptor, the Emachine does not. We want to be able to use both at the same time. Can anyone tell me what equipment I will need (very specific recomendations would be welcome) and exactly what I need to do with it.

You need a wireless router. Feed you Internet into the routers WAN port, connect the other computer to the one of the ports in the router (Should have at least 4), other than how and if you want to set up security, about all there is to it.

Use a wireless adapter, and out it next to your eMachine. You Mac can be put anywhere this way.

wireless works on 802.11. this is the same for mac and pc. get yourself a wireless router, connect to your high speed internet connection( cable modem or DSL modem) through the routers uplink port. connect an ethernet cable from your emachines to one of the remaining open ports on the router. the mac will pick up the wireless signal.
the link below will show you a good router to start with.
