Why does my laptop not connect to the network via the wireless router?
March 8th, 2009 | by networkrouter |Hi!
I have a Netgear DG834G wireless router,
I have set the router up perfectly for wireless and for some reason it just wont work, I have set the access points and everything.
I have this PC which i am on now which is connected to the router with a cat5 cable and the laptop which connects wirelessly.
The laptop says its connected by wireless but when i try to go on the internet the site just says page cannot be displayed.
I Dont no why, the laptop works with a cable, but as its got a wireless card i want to use that so i can use it wherever round the house.
The laptops Wireless Card Is a : Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adapter
The subnet mask i am using is 255.255.255.0
Ip Address is 192.168.0.7
Do you have to forward ports to the router or disable something in the firewall for the wireless to work, or is there somethign wrong with the laptop?

You have to run the wizard to tell the laptop to use the wireless connection.
click on your My Network Places and look on the left side for wireless connection, forget which tab it is, but run that wizard.

on the laptop you have to setup the (ssid key)
however if your wireless network is working you should be able to see it after starting the laptop.
the best thing to do is in control panel start wireless network wizard, you will first have to log into your router and get the (ssid KEY )
start the wizard and make sure you pick your wirless ID as the one you want to use and take down your SSID KEY for the connection.it will then ask for the network card make sure you pick your wireless card .then it will ask for the network name (ie: mshome)or whatever you have called your network.
to logint the router
1st make a network connection to the router with a cable
2nd start laptop
3rd go to command prompt
4th type ipconfig (return)
with the info look for the part that says Gateway then type this address into the address bar of internet explorer this will open the router config page.
make sure you can see your wireless connection in network and disable any referance to the standard network card on the laptop.
also in router config setup page have a look there may be a button to switch on wireless access.
